How to Learn Language With Instagram

Take advantage of social media to feed yourself bite-sized language lessons

If you are on Instagram and complain about how it’s ruining your time management plans — and you are trying to learn a language (or several) — then this is the easy and lazy strategy to turn things around:

Step 1: Search YouTube for a channel or two that you like, read the video description and see if the YouTuber has an Instagram account. Follow that account.

Example: If struggling with Italian grammar tenses, go to YouTube and type in the search bar “Italian grammar”. Watch videos by a few different people, see who you like, follow them on Instagram.

Step 2: Engage with their Instagram accounts.

Example: You’re following a language teacher or two, now engage with their accounts by liking/commenting on/saving their posts, or sharing on your stories or DM to a friend.

Step 3: Let the mysterious algorithm do the rest.

Result: The more you interact with the language accounts/posts, the more you will see their content on your home feed and explore pages. The more you expand on those posts in the explore page, the more your explore page will feature related posts and similar accounts.
